Finding Peace: All you need to know about Pet Cremation

Updated: May 2

Losing a beloved pet is an emotional experience that many of us have had to face at some point in our lives. The grief and sense of loss can be overwhelming, making it challenging to navigate the practicalities that come with saying goodbye to a cherished companion. This is where Donegal Pet Crematorium, a compassionate and professional pet crematorium can make a significant difference.

What is Involved in Pet Cremations?

Pet cremations are very similiar to human cremations. The deceased pet will be exposed to very high heat that turns its body into bone and dust. After the cremation is finished, the remains are placed inside a machine known as a cremulator which breaks down the bone to a fine powder. The ashes are then placed in an airtight bag, scatter tube or urn of choice and returned to the pet parent. At Donegal Pet Crematorium we pride ourselves in a prompt return of your pet within 24 - 48 hrs. We feel this is most important.

How Long Do Pet Cremations Take?

The duration of the pet cremation depends on the size. Generally, pet cremations take between 2 and 5 hours. After the cremation has finished, it can take between 1 to 2 hours for the ashes to cool and be ready to go home. At Donegal Pet Crematorium, we like to stay in contact with the pet parent during the process so that they are informed every step of the way.

Do Pets Get Cremated Alone?

You will find two different options for pet cremation offered by most crematoriums. The most common is a communal cremation, which means your pet will be included with other people's pet's for the duration of the cremation. From this option, you do not receive any ashes back.

The second option is an individual cremation where your pet is the only animal in the chamber for the duration of the cremation. At Donegal Pet Crematorium, we only offer individual cremations. Our facilities have been built and designed to the highest standards ensuring your pet receives the utmost respect and dignity on their final journey.

What Should You Do With The Ashes?

The demand for pet cremation has increased in the last few years. Some people opt to scatter the remains of their pets, although the majority of people prefer to keep the ashes of their pets in urns which can be kept at home. There are also many various items that are available in which you can place small amounts of your pets ashes in. Please see our shop for more ideas of ways to keep your beloved pet close.
